The Reckoning by John Grisham – A Must-Read or a Miss?
John Grisham’s The Reckoning takes us on a journey through law, war, and small-town drama, but does it deliver a satisfying conclusion? In this review, I break down the key characters-war hero Pete Banning, his wife Liza, their kids, and Reverend Dexter Bell-while also exploring the book’s unexpected deep dive into World War II history, particularly the Bataan Death March.
I share my thoughts on Grisham’s storytelling, the book’s three-part structure, and what worked (and didn’t) for me. Plus, I discuss some major spoilers, including my issues with certain character choices and legal proceedings in the novel. And, of course, I cast some Hollywood stars in the roles I envisioned while reading!

The Tomorrow People: Revisiting Nickelodeon's Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Gem
Переглядів 47День тому
In this nostalgic look back, I revisit *The Tomorrow People*, the British sci-fi series that captured my imagination as a kid. Airing on ITV from 1973-79 and later on Nickelodeon in the U.S. (1981-84), this show combined progressive themes with groundbreaking (if low-budget) storytelling. Join me as I explore its fascinating premise-young "homo superior" psychics navigating evolution, pacifism,...

2,782 Characters Later: My Problem with The Wheel of Time

In this review, I dive into why The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan didn’t work for me, despite its overwhelming popularity on platforms like Amazon and Goodreads. While it starts strong with The Eye of the World-offering a unique take on the hero’s journey, complex world-building, and progressive themes for its time-the series quickly spirals into what I’d call bloat overload. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬...

I hate ai videos. Even when the topic is very interesting, it's just jarring to hear the same 5 sentences regurgitated and rephrased 50 times. Super obvious that the ai got a 5 sentence long prompt and stretch it out to a 20 min video. I now click off immediately as soon as i recognize it.

I am a Huge Fantasy reader! I Read The Belgariad and the The Malloreon & ALL of the Christopher Tolkein Works and the Shaneria books to a point.. Even Anne McCaffrey to a point, with PERN.. But there is a turning where a LONG series of books and READING an author gets to be a Non-Game! Terry Brooks Banked Me! Shannara kept going On & On. I Got Tired of it! I have never read the Wheel of TIME.. I am sure that it is good! But I look at ALL of the books and say What a WASTE of Time! There are Soo many others out there.. Katherine Kurtz.. How many stories of the world of "Deryni" can there be? Another Big reading challenge that looks Awesome, But I do not want to get into, as it is HUGE! I only have so much time in my life to read day by day.. DUNE and the expansion WAS an Awesome thing to Read BTW!! For Me = Well worth it, as they were Very Unique!

I love my twsbi Eco with the stub, and I just got a bottle of Shin-Kai recently. It is finding its way into many of my pens. You have good taste my friend! I have been experimenting with cheaper a5 notebooks to put in with my Rhodia planner (same paper as Clairfontaine, I believe). My recent go to stationary is the A5 Muji notebooks. They are 5 thin books for 12 bucks on Amazon, and the paper is good-almost as crisp as the Rhodia! They are even cheaper when Ruby goes to the city, so I have her grab me a few at the Muji store. At the store they have "bleed proof" notebooks that are a bit more expensive, and I love them, but I find that paper that is coated too much takes too long to dry. It's a compromise I guess. Nice video Ken. I am enjoying your recent review content.

Thanks, Greg! For me, I will always choose the heavier coatings because I love bringing out the shimmer/sheen in the inks. When I write, I always have a blotting card right there with me and will usually write a line, blot, write another line, blot, etc. It's a bit cumbersome, but worth it for me.

Diner is one of my 100 favourite films of all time, so it’s interesting to hear your take on it. I essentially agree with a lot of your observations (all the characters’ flaws) but see them as positives of the film. It probably wouldn’t be very interesting if all the characters were good, mature well-balanced, individuals. I do agree with you on Ninth Gate though 😀.

This film is superb. There's a reason every one of it's cast became major stars later on. And I do agree about the similarities with Beautiful Girls. But both are great and honest movies about the flaws of average men, clinging to their youth. Christ, what you call "problematic" I imagine many would call "real".

  • @ednicholson7839
    @ednicholson7839 Місяць тому

The movie is about a bunch of immature guys having trouble growing up. Which is why it’s funny. It feels more real than modern comedies, which is maybe why the characters made you feel uncomfortable. You don’t have to like the characters but you are welcome to laugh at them. But it’s not sitcom funny. The style of the film is far more real world than that. Btw this film was highly influenced by a Fellini film called I Vitelloni. Similar story about guys who can’t grow up. Maybe the first and best of its kind. 🎥

There’s a movie I feel was more compelling and told the same kind of story as Diner but better IMHO called Le Haine. That movie just gripped me from the very beginning, and the ending left me with my head in my hands thinking, “What the hell did I just watch?” but in a good way.

No shade; everyone has their own taste in films. That being said, clearly you're not from Baltimore. Barry Levinson is from Baltimore and this film is a loose reflection of his early adulthood. There are lots of interesting stories about Levinson's style of directing this movie, and for those of us from B-more, this film rings pretty true. It's also a comedy, so not to be taken too seriously; something I think you likely did. But again, not your taste which is fine. The Rotten Tomatoes scores should be an indicator that you may have missed something, however.

I have been taking care of my sick wife and eating stuffed crust pizza from Papa Murphy's. Also, it's frickin cold here. Idea for your channel. Now just hear me out: "Ken Fights Randos" You grab your phone, walk outside, and you just pick a fight with the first person you bump into. "Hey ya hawd-on, you look like ya could use some knuckle therapy!" and don't forget to push them in the chest. This is a good fighting ice breaker. This is what the kids like these days. Make this happen.

SNOW!! I actually miss snow. This weekend we went to Barnes and Noble, I got a book, Mike got a book....Melvon got 5 books. then we went to a greek restaruant and got to-go food to eat at the park. Oh, we also went to the movies and Lowes to look at giant Christmas decor (we did not get any). That was our weekend. Enjoy the cooler weather!

Fun fact: Songs that you can't get out of your head are called "Ohrwurm" in german, which translates to "ear-worm". :D

@@KenMcKim Yea, it's a good one. :D "Glühbirne" which means light bulb is really funny too. The literal translation is "glow pear".
